Bubba’s 33- Great Vibes, Great Food

Bubba’s 33

This restaurant is located just off Loop 1604 and can be easily accessible from the access road. Its visible location makes it easy for drivers in all directions to spot, which is great for attracting new customers. It’s located just outside The Forum at Olympia Parkway—an area that’s well-developed and packed with places to shop and eat for those in San Antonio. I chose this restaurant because of both its convenient location and its appearance. I wanted to eat somewhere close to home that wasn’t too fancy and had more of a laid-back, sports bar vibe.

From the outside, Bubba’s has a clean, minimalistic look. The building is made of brick, and a red sign out front reads “Bubba’s. Pizza. Burgers. Beer.” After driving past and seeing the sign, I knew it would match the sports bar I was looking for. The interior color scheme was consistent with the outside, and the sports bar atmosphere continued through every inch of the space. TVs were basically lining nearly every wall, and there were all kinds of quirky decorations—including a hanging metal shark—which all made sense some how.

My first impression when I stepped inside was that it was loud and bright, but it had the perfect vibe for a casual bite to eat. Right at the entrance, there was even a couch built from an old car, which gave it a fun touch.

The menu was super easy to navigate. Each section was color-coded in red and blue, with a little “33” icon marking their specialties. It has all the main dishes you’d expect from a sports bar—burgers, pizzas, wings, steaks, and salads—nothing super fancy or unusual, but plenty of solid choices. I was torn between the crispy chicken salad, the chicken & bacon avocado sandwich, and the grilled ribeye. It all sounded amazing, and honestly, it felt like a win-win no matter what I chose. While nothing on the menu caught me off guard or felt totally out of the box, that was kind of comforting—I knew whatever I picked was going to hit the spot.

The service at Bubba’s was really great. Our waiter Kyle was friendly, engaging, and checked on us often without ever interrupting the meal. From the time we ordered to when the food hit the table, it was about a 20-minute wait, which felt totally reasonable on a busy night. There was one mix-up where he accidentally brought us mozzarella sticks instead of the cheesy fries we ordered as an appetizer. He wasted no time and he fixed it right away. Within five minutes, we had the correct appetizer, and he handled the mistake with a great attitude, which I really appreciated.

I ended up choosing the chicken, bacon & avocado sandwich, it looked just as good as it tasted. Everything was fresh, from the chicken to the avocado. I’m on a bit of a health journey, so I’ve been mindful about what I eat, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this sandwich without feeling like I was ignoring my goals. It tasted clean, flavorful, and satisfying without being too heavy.

Overall, Bubba’s 33 was exactly what I was hoping for—a relaxed, welcoming environment with solid food and fast, friendly service. It’s family-friendly, fun, and gives off that sports bar energy without being too loud or chaotic. I brought my family along, and we all had a great experience.

  1. Wow, you know I started to go to Bubba's there near the forum for this assignment. I live close by but have never been there. My daughter and my son-in-law brought me a burger from there, and it was very good. I told them I would go there, sit, and enjoy that sports bar and a good meal from their menu. Now when I took a look at the menu online, I saw a macaroni salad dish I might like. Well, now I will have to go for some good eats.
