Restuarant Review: B&Js Pizza

The restaurant I tried for the first time is called B&Js Pizza. I have heard a lot about this place and that it is a local classic. There are only two locations, both of which are in Corpus Christi. My brother raves about this place, but I have never taken the risk because I am very picky when it comes to Pizza. I decided to go to the original B&J's, which is off the main highway in Corpus, meaning the area is pretty busy. It took me about two tries to find the right turn into the shopping center where B&J's is located. There isn't anything particularly appealing about the area where they are located. Still, they are next to the Cinemark theatre, which would make for a nice activity after a good pizza. I did not choose this restaurant based on its location.

The restaurant itself gives off a Classic Hippy 70s Vibe, which was very appealing and consistent even within. Inside, you are greeted with the amazing smell of fresh dough and super cool, laid-back staff. When you walk in, you get to see the chef hand-making the pizza behind a glass, which is super cool to watch.  There is always rock and roll playing or a family singing karaoke. This place reminded me of a social venue where everyone is family. B&Js is also known for its Handcrafted Ales, which was a nice treat to pair with the Pizza.

I thought it was cool that they Brew their own Homemade Ale and Beer.

The menu itself is a bit cluttered since there is just so much on it, but not overwhelming. One recommendation I would have been including pictures in the menu, that way customers can get a better Idea of what they are ordering, but it's pizza, wings, and subs, so it’ll slide. There wasn’t anything too surprising on the menu; everything was traditional for a pizza place. One thing I didn’t try was their Subs. I have heard they are really good, so next time I go, I’ll give that a try.

The staff were super friendly; they offered recommendations and their own personal favorite items. Everyone there felt like a big family, which was very welcoming and inviting. The pizza came out in around 15 minutes, perfectly cooked and to order. 15 minutes was very quick considering it was made from scratch. And just WOW. It had to have been the best pizza I have ever had. Just imagine that smell of a good pizza in front of you. The pizza was a bit greasy, which is not a problem for me, but I know that some people don’t like their pizza that way. But every bite was hot, layered with flavor, and a perfect balance of rich mozzarella and thin slices of pepperoni. The crust was very stable and didn’t flop when I held a slice, which made eating it much easier.

I tried making this picture look as Professional as possible, ha-ha! I think it came out pretty good.

These Wings are Amazing! The chicken was cooked perfectly and tasted so Sweet and Good!

My meal was a simple 14” Pepperoni Pizza with a Root Beer and one of their handcrafted Ales with a side of Honey BBQ Wings and Garlic Bread, and everything came out to perfection. I was genuinely surprised at how much I liked it. I have found a new spot that I will likely be going to multiple times a week. I like places where I can go to both eat and hang out without feeling the need to leave when I finish my food. B&Js feel like a social hangout spot where I can take family and friends to chill and have a good time. I’ll give this Restaurant a 9.4 out of 10, with the only fall off being that the restrooms are run down, but their Food makes up for it.

  1. I am going to the beach twice in July and I will be going here! I really like your pictures, it feels like it truly captured what the food is really looking like, which I find very helpful when trying a new restaurant. Also, thanks for the bathroom tip, public restrooms are truly hit or miss nowadays!

  2. I'm so happy to see this mentioned. Last time, my family went to Corpus Christi was to see the Corpus Aquarium, and we wanted some good pizza and wings afterwords. It just happened to be this place. I didn't remember the name, but I remember how the front looked. B&J's Pizza is awesome and let me tell you I devoured the wings. The family wasn't allowed to touch them LOL!!!

    1. YES! The Wings were amazing, honestly giving Wingstop a run for its money. This place might honestly be Corpus's best local restaurant.

  4. When my kids were at home, we used to go to Port Aransas every spring break. For years we would get our rooms and then drive back to Corpus looking for a good pizza and wings restaurant. Looks like we missed out. The food looks great, and I bet it is very delicious. I may just take a trip down there by myself or take my grandkids with me and definitely stop by for some good eats. I like the laid-back 70s style.
