Taste test

I love Greek yogurt and think it is a great option when it comes to a quick breakfast or snack. I always buy the same flavor and brand (Greek Gods vanilla and honey) but this only comes in a large container and is not portable. As much as I love this brand it is also fun to try other flavors and brands.

I decided to try three brands of Greek yogurt that I have never had before - TwoGood, Chobani, and Fage mixed berry. My hope is to find a portable brand of Greek yogurt that has both good flavor and consistency. I enlisted the help of two other people in this taste test to see what the consensus is. To not mix flavors, we each drank water between each taste test.

The first one we tried was TwoGood’s Mixed Berry. At first glance, it had a slight pink color and good consistency, typical of a Greek yogurt. The first bite was very tart and did not have the mixed berry flavor I was looking for. It also had a strong aftertaste. The second bite was still tart with little flavor. The two other people who tried it as well both agreed with how it tasted.

After drinking some water, it was time to try the next brand, Chobani. We opened the container and it looked better than the previous one. It was a darker pink color and we could see seeds of the fruit that was in it. The mixed berry flavor was good but not overpowering and it had a smoother consistency that the last which reminded me more of regular rather than Greek yogurt. The after taste was strong but not nearly as overpowering as TwoGood.

The last yogurt we tried was Fage. We made sure to drink water again so that we didn’t mix the flavors which helped get rid of the after taste. At first glance we knew this one would be slightly different from the rest because it had a section where we could dump the fruit into the yogurt. We tried the fruit and yogurt both separately and together. The berry mixture had a jam-like consistency to it - very sweet but good and we could see the fruit itself. The yogurt alone was very tart, much like the first one we tried. However, when it was mixed it was fruitier while still retaining some of the tartness. The after taste was not nearly as strong as the previous two. For this one we all agreed that it was important to make sure that the fruit and yogurt were completely mixed to ensure even consistency.

TwoGood was only 80 calories, had 3 grams of carbs and 2 grams of fat and would be a solution for a lower carb diet. This was the overall least favorite brand that we tried due to the tartness and after taste of the yogurt. Chobani was 140 calories, had 17 grams of carbs and 2.5 grams of fat. Fage was 120 calories, had 13 grams of carbs and 2.5 grams of fat. These three brands were all similarly priced, all were 5.3 ounce servings and were readily available for purchase at the local HEB grocery store.

Overall, when it came to the three yogurts, one person preferred the Chobani and one preferred the Fage, I thought both were good and would purchase either in the future; I would not recommend the TwoGood unless you were looking for a yogurt as part of a low carb diet.

  1. Hello Gwyneth! I too love yogurt. I love to mix fruits into my yogurt (usually strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries). I know you mentioned that the Fage and Chobani yogurt were both pretty good, but I was curious which one you felt would be best to mix fruits into? I know you mentioned that the Fage yogurt gave you the option of mixing some fruit flavored jam into the yogurt, so that is already contributing to the taste. But would the taste of the yogurt be overwhelmed if I added any more fruit to it? Do you think the Chobani yogurt would be better suited when pairing it with more fruits?
